Nov 9th Discussion / What Are Your Favorite Songs Of The Year?

6 more reviews this week, feel free to discuss them or not. It's my birthday this weekend, so if anyone feels like getting me something, just buy yourself a CD through one of the links on my site. That will be present enough... heh.

For discussion this week, I thought I would ask about favorite songs of 2005. I haven't quite made up my mind for my year end list (and it's not quite the end of the year), but there are certain songs that stick out. How about you?

Nah, nah. Not you at all. I was referring to the hit-and-run comment before you. You've already offered up a bunch of good suggestions in this thread and in others. I just want people to get along, offer up opinions, and be happy. :)

my last comment wasn't meant to be insulting...
sorry for any offence caused

Instead of making vaguely insulting comments regarding the taste of readers (and me, I'm assuming), you're welcome to post some of your own suggestions regarding stuff you enjoy.

If nobody has mentioned anything "off the beaten path," then recommend some things. The purpose of the site is to hopefully help people (including myself) discover some things they might not have otherwise.

"Explore off the beaten track..."

Yesterday I was in my car with a friend listening the last record of XIU XIU (La Foret) and when the second track came out I told him: "this is one of my best song of the year".
So, Muppet Face is my first choice, because is an example of combination between silence and noise and because I love the production of the voices (It sounds like they're far away)

the national -"all the wine"

i love their new record "alligator"

Also, I would like to note that Harald Sack Ziegler's album "Punkt" sports one of the single ugliest record covers I have seen in recenet (or any) memory.

Sufjan Stevens' "Jacksonville"
Mountains' "Sunday 07.25.04 Live At Tionic" (my girlfriend even likes Mountains...which is saying a lot).

The overall sound of Signaldrift's new album is very nice.

Agreed on "Glosoli" and "The Purple Bottle."

Nice review on the new Windy and Carl. The liner notes help put the songs in a very specific emotional context, and I like that; I don't think the songs would have as much impact otherwise.

Sigur Ros "Glosoli"
The Decemberists "The mariner's revenge song"
Broken Social Scene "Ibi Dreams of Pavement"
Clap your hands say yeah - "The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth"
Clem Snide "Made for TV movie"
