Upon reading a few lines, I could tell that each one was a letter of some sort. I skimmed a bit of each one thinking that I could piece something together, but they all seemed to be written indiscriminately. Each one started with a "Dear" line, but there was never a name behind the greeting. They were all exactly one front and back side of that same piece of paper and signed with the first name of "Bernard," but beyond that there were no other real unifying properties.
At that point, I was completely enthralled with what I had found. It was late, but I sat down with all the papers and decided to read them from beginning to end, in order of the dates that were written on the corner. Even though the writing was small, they were quick reading, and by the time I had reached the end, I wanted something more. I felt like I knew something about the person that had written them, but I also had a lot of questions. The actual letters seemed to be a mix of historical moments in the persons life, random observances, and other odds and ends like poetry and little sayings. Besides being written in an extremely nice script, the writing was interesting and quite engaging. At times it seemed like they were written for public record, while at others they seemed to be addressed to a lover or good friend. Each one had it's different little quirks and themes and it was easy to tell that the writing had taken place over a long span of time.
