I woke early in the morning and got ready for the last time in my bathroom, making sure that I left everything sparkling clean after I had finished. I rolled up my sleeping bag and slung my duffel bag over my shoulder, then headed out the door. With one last look, I remembered how my furniture and things had looked and smiled knowing I had a whole new adventure ahead of me that day with unpacking and arranging. Would I find my Feng Shui?
Feeling instantly daunted when I opened the door to the new place, I quickly attacked several boxes and tried to get a lot of the big things out of the way at first. By noon, I had gotten all my clothes and shoes into their respective places, as well as set up my bed and my computer at the desk. My dining table was in place, as well as the chairs around it and my couch. The only things left were smaller items such as arranging all my CDs, getting books back in order on their shelves, and getting little things set up to make the place feel a little more lived-in. I put all my dishes and cooking supplies in their respective cupboards, set all the clocks to the same times, plugged in the phone (although service at it wouldn't start until the next day), put magazines on the coffee table, and even had time left over to make a run to the grocery store before it got dark. When I got home, I made myself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and hopped onto my computer for a little while, just to play some solitaire. Music was playing slightly in the background (as it had been since I first arrived that morning). It was a lazy activity and I felt at home in the new place. Sure, there would be nights of stumbling into things at night when I went to the bathroom, but I felt comfortable in my new surroundings. |
